Laura’s Journal 3- Gregor

I arrive in his tent again. “Today is… Gregor!”

Lon’qu: “Understood.”

“Remember! Enjoy this!!” I give him two thumbs up and pat him on the back for good measure.

Lon’qu: “What’s that for..?”

Laura: “Just cause. Can’t I…?”

Lon’qu: “…Hmph.”

Laura: “Alright, no more from me, off I go!”

I head back to my tent and sit on my bed. “Nothing else to do but listen. Sometimes I wish I can be there…”

Gregor: “Oy, Lon’qu. Why are you having furrowed brow and narrow eyes?”

I laughed. “Describes him alright.”

Lon’qu: “I know all about you, Gregor. Basilio told me.”

My ears perk up.

Lon’qu: “He says you are the only sellsword to ever match him in single combat.”
Gregor: “Oy, that is from distant past. Gregor barely remember those times.”

(How old are Basilio and Gregor?!)

Lon’qu: “I have also heard that you were once a candidate to become khan of Regna Ferox.”

Laura: “Huh… that’s news to me.”

Lon’qu: “So, the stories are true? In that case, I challenge you to a duel!”

Laura: “Is he trying to prove something…?”

Gregor: “Do not wave sword in Gregor’s face. Edge is seeming very sharp.”

Imagining that Lon’qu is actually doing what Gregor said makes me laugh.

Lon’qu: “I wish to fight using real weapons. A true duel for true stakes!”

(This is a first for him.) I ponder…

Gregor: “Gregor is not unsheathing sword unless someone is paying him much gold.”

Lon’qu: “Craven… Have you no pride? Or do you fear the wrath of Lon’qu?”

Laura: “Why is he like this.” I can’t help but laugh some more. He seems so different from how he was with Robin or Vaike.

Gregor: “Gregor is fearing no man. But he also does not fight without clink of coin.”

Laura: “Gotta pay up!”

Gregor: “Besides, you waste your time, yes? A fight with me will not make you strong.”

Laura: “No… because there’s something he wants.”

Gregor: “Oh? Is little bag of coins. You give Gregor pocket money?”

Laura: “Ah… he actually paid him.”

Lon’qu: “Well, there’s your money. Now I order you to fight me for true.”

Laura: “So adamant. He must really want this match.)

Gregor: “You are thinking is first stage in defeating Basilio, yes?”

Lonqu: “When I paid your fee, I don’t remember asking you to prattle on like a hen.”

Laura: “Lon’qu!!” (I’m seeing such a new side to him…) “But then again, maybe he’s been this way? Just not to me…?”

Gregor: “‘Until death’ makes many people very sad. Especially ladies.”

The way that he ignored Gregor’s comment.

Lon’qu: “We will stop when one of us yields or overwhelming victory is assured.”

Lon’qu: “No time like the present…”

Laura: “He doesn’t waste time does he.”

Gregor: “Oh? “You do not notice? Look at chest. See?”

Gregor: “Gregor’s sword is already poised to thrust.”

Lon’qu: “H-how did you-“

Laura: “That fast?!!”

Gregor: “Ah, yes. Gregor sees chink in armor. Here, at throat.”

Gregor: “Don’t move. If sneezing even tiny bit, sword goes into neck. Very messy.”

Gregor: “This counts as ‘overwhelming victory assurance,’ yes?”

Laura: “I can’t believe he lost…”

Gregor: “Is no trick. Is speed! Is also why Basilio so much stronger than Lon’qu.”

Laura: “Basilio is faster than Lon’qu?! What??”

Lon’qu: “Curse you…”

Gregor: “Lon’qu is young fool now, but Gregor sees much potential. You will learn.”

Laura: “Just how much experience does Gregor have…?”

Lon’qu: “No. I came to apologize. I concede that you beat me fairly in our duel.”

Lon’qu: “You are right. I am both young and a fool. I need more battle experience.”

Laura: “Not a fool. Not at all…”

Lon’qu: “It’s the only way I will gain the wisdom required to anticipate your sly moves.”

Gregor: “You need spend time with Gregor so he can be teaching sword skills.”

Laura: “Gregor must really be that much older.” I didn’t think much about it before. (But, it would make sense, why Lon’qu is acting this way.)

Lon’qu: “Then I demand you teach me everything you know!”

Laura: “He always wants to get better at swordsmanship and to learn from a veteran is highly advantageous.”

Gregor: “You have angry passion of young man. But Gregor is liking that!”

Gregor: “You remind him of young Gregor when he was being very hotheaded!”

Laura: “Oh no.”

Gregor: “Let us make with the training, then. Gregor whip you into shape!”

Laura: “Guess he’ll be busy training today...” I plop on my bed, and stare at my ceiling.

“Even at how amazing he is…” I hold my right hand to the air reaching out “always out of my reach…”

When I hear his voice over my ear piece.

Lon’qu: “Hey… you there?”

My heart flutters. And, I sit up straight.

Lon’qu: “Come, train.”

“For training huh… but he invited me so…”

I’m on my two feet and out my door, I meet him and Gregor at the training grounds.

Training consisted of Gregor showing Lon’qu   the things he learned and Lon’qu practicing the same moves. I try to practice the same swings with my axe and not get in their way, but it’s not the same because they have both have swords. But nonetheless, the same movement can be applied for different weapons.

(I’m spent I’m at my limit…)

Gregor: “Oy! Gregor sees you sweating rivers- time to rest, no more training!”

I blushed being called out.

Lon’qu: “He’s right. Rest.”

I looked around for my bag… but then realized I left without grabbing my canteen.

Before I can say anything, Lon’qu hands me his canteen.

Lon’qu: “You… need to stay hydrated.”

Laura: “But!! This is yours…!” I’m flustered.

Lon’qu: “I-It’s not a big deal. Drink it.” He practically shoves it in my hand.

Lon’qu: “I’m not leaving until you drink it.”

My throat is consciously tighter and thirsty.

(I am parched…) I look at his canteen in my hands… (Well… I’m not going to say no to water.) I drink it.

Laura: “Thank you…”

Lon’qu: “Good.” Then, he walks back to Gregor to train some more.

(W-what was that about…? But more importantly how did he know I was looking for water…?)

I sit on the ground and watch Lon’qu train, my eyes on his every movement and trying to figure out what just transpired.
