(It’s just a patrol and not a date…)
(But it’s just me and him!!)
“…Why are you grinning like that…?”
“Because… I’m happy…! We are partners again today!” I laugh just excited to be with him.
He smiles as if my excitement was contagious with a “hmph”, but then just as quickly, it turns back into a frown.
“Nothing to be excited over.”
“Everyday with you is exciting though. Especially when I know you have my back! Thanks always for the saves.”
He sighs. Which internally, makes my heart flutter.
“Always…? Hmph. Don’t make it a habit...” He starts walking ahead. “Keep up. We have lots of ground to cover today.”
I follow him as we go our patrol.
“Don’t you ever wonder about the rest of the Shepherds?”
Lon’qu: “This is out of nowhere.”
“Patrols are a good time for thinking! So, about the Shepherds??”
“Not really.” He says flatly.
“Seriously…? Like… we are fighting with all these people, don’t you want to know if they are trustworthy at least?”
Lon’qu: “I don’t need to get to know them. If they start trouble, I just put them in their place. That is all.”
“Yeah but what if something bad happens and we need to work together or something…?”
“I don’t work with others.”
“But, you work with me…?”
Lon’qu: “It’s different… you’re different.”
“You mean because I bother you huh?” I laugh depreciated.
He stops and turns to look at me. “I never said that. You’re… not a bother.” He whips back around and continue walking.
(Maybe I shouldn’t be reading into it too deeply, but it still makes my heart tingle.)
I start wondering if he’s talked to anyone at the camp…
“Maybe… you should get to know all the Shepherds! Your comrades!”
“Why…?”
“It’ll be good for you! Plus, it’ll help you overcome your fear of women.”
He winces at the word. “… Again, why?”
“We must overcome your fear! It’ll make you stronger. Though your aversion to women is also a part of your many charms.”
*Sigh* “We…? You can’t just say that…”
“Starting tomorrow, we will get to know everyone!!”
“No.”
“It’s not no! You didn’t even try!”
Lon’qu: “I said no.”
“Oh come on, I’ll be with you every step of the way.” I pull out a small mic.
“What’s this…?” He eyes it suspiciously.
“I asked Anna to give me something that I can listen to conversations on it.” I put the mic on his clothes. “So, you wear this.” And I show him my earpiece and put it in my ear. “And I can listen!”
Mic screeches due to close proximity.
“Ack! My ear!!” I take some spaces back until the screeching stops. “We can test it out! I will walk to that tree all the way over there and when I wave at you, you say something!”
He sighs. And I walk towards to the tree. Once I reach there, I wave.
A single breath and his words “Hmph” fill my ear.
My smile turns into a wide grin and I give him a thumbs up. And then just as quickly I decided to shake my head and yell, “I didn’t hear you. Say something!!”
*Sigh* “…” A pause. “I know you heard me…”
I smile and run back to him and I take out the earpiece quickly before it screeches again.
“Success! I heard you loud and clear!”
He takes off the mic that I had attached on his clothes.
My face falters slightly. (Is he really not going to do this…?)
He hands it to my free hand.
*Sigh* “Even if I say no, I don’t have a say in this do I…?”
“Nope!” I laugh.
Another sigh escapes his lips.
Lon’qu: “I… don’t want this in my tent at night. So, come find me in the mornings if you want me to wear this….”
“Alright! Deal!” I smile again. I also take out a piece of paper. “Let’s also… make a list!”
“What’s this… now?” He crosses his hands over his chest.
“I will make a list of all the people that you should get to know.”
He sighs deeper and shakes his head. “You just tell me who you want me to find… in the morning too…”
“Really?? You mean it??” My excitement taking over.
“I can’t believe I’m doing this…”
(He doesn’t know how spoiled I feel…)
“This is a promise! You promise?”
Lon’qu: “You’re not going to take no for an answer…”
“I’ll make sure to see you every morning and tell you who we will get to learn about today! This is going to be so much fun!”
Lon’qu: “Unbelievable…”
